Stop Expecting Perfection Early On!

Your new puppy won’t behave the way you want them to for a while yet.

Unrealistic expectations lead to heart ache.

Expectations being out of sync with biological reality are a major cause of puppy blues, puppy frustration and puppy training stress! Their brains are 90% instinct right now.

They aren’t ‘bad’. They’re just underdeveloped.

Lots of new puppy owners think their puppy is being stubborn or disobedient. But the truth is your puppy lacks the brain hardware to act the way you want them to. Especially when it comes to impulse control.

They aren't bad when they bite your ankles, or wee on the rug. They are doing what comes naturally to them in a world they don't understand yet.

Too many owners are trying to teach quantum physics to a toddler who hasn't learnt to sit still yet!

Real puppy training isn't about dominance or shouting commands, it is about relationships and managing their environment; staying more consistent and calm than they are chaotic.

And they will be chaotic. It's what puppies do.

If you stop chasing perfection, focus on your relationship and start being consistent, teaching them little by little, layer upon layer, you'll find that behaviour follows trust.

Remember, you’re not just training a pet. You’re growing a brain. Give it the time it needs to finish.

Happy training xx
