Puppy Socialisation Isn’t Just About Meeting Other Dogs!
It’s this…
Think of your puppy training socialisation as a world tour, not just a trip to the dog park.
Many puppy owners are going wrong in thinking that puppy socialisation is just about getting their puppy used to other dogs. But this couldn’t be more wrong. Whilst being comfortable, happy and friendly around other dogs is important, it is just one aspect of many other things that you need to do in order to properly socialise your puppy.
Your puppy needs to learn that the whole world is safe and to build the ability to bounce back and quickly recover from anything unexpected for the rest of their lives. Your goal is to make them comfortable with the world.
Think beyond the zoomies.
Proper socialisation should include:
Sights, sounds, surfaces, smells.
Noises (fireworks, traffic etc), novel items, unexpected events, moving objects, people, animals, traffic, car rides, household items/noises, quiet and busy environments, children, cyclists, shops, new places, weather, the vets, handling, being out at different times of day in different daylight hours, outdoor terrain…
The list goes on.
The goal?
A dog who is rock-solid, resilient, adaptable, environmentally confident…as well as happy around people and dogs.
For the rest of their life.
Happy puppy training and socialisation! xx
